About Me

My name is Jonathan Saville and I am a Sport and Exercise Psychologist in Training with the British Psychological Society. What this means is that I am training to become a HCPC registered sport and exercise psychologist and receiving expert supervision along the way.

My background in sport started from a young age where I would regularly compete in football, tennis and cricket but most recently I race in cycling and triathlon. My experience of competing regionally and often handling the pressure enthused the desire to understand how psychology can benefit sport performance. I have studied sport and exercise psychology degrees at Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Manchester where my research interests focuses on how social identity leadership figures impact and facilitate  thriving at individual, team and organisational levels.

I have worked with a variety of clients including elite women's football, British triathletes, amateur rugby players, elite modern pentathlete and professional motocross athletes. I also have experience of delivering academic lectures with university students and working within a community pain service and understanding the psychological demands of persistent pain with the NHS. My area of work is not exclusive to sport as I understand the benefits of applying sport psychology to other performance domains.

Practice Philosophy

My practice adopts a more hollistic philosophy where I believe that each individual's values and beliefs exist through the experiences and complexities outside from their sport or performance environment. I aim to manage and develop the individual core beyond the athlete persona through a more cognitive-behavioural approach where I have experience in applying REBT, ACT and SFBT in my consultancy.
